ACT Policing has recovered two licensed firearms stolen in a burglary in Hackett yesterday (Sunday, May 13).
About 12.30pm a police member saw two teenage boys walking on Cowper Street, towards the Dickson shops, carrying green firearm bags.
Police approached the boys and asked them to put the bags down. One boy complied with the request, the other fled the scene.
A rapid response from Belconnen, Gungahlin and Specialist Response and Security members enabled both boys to be apprehended.
The licensed firearms were identified and returned to their owner, who confirmed his home had been burgled earlier that day.
The alleged offenders aged 15 and 17 were arrested and charged. They will face ACT Children’s Court at a later date.
Police are seeking the assistance of the community by urging anyone who may have any information about the burglary or the stolen firearms to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
