Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – John Hughes, 1986.

A classic from the king of the 1980s teen movie, John Hughes (Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is the ultimate truancy movie. When popular kid Ferris (Matthew Broderick) feigns illness to take the day off, his detailed plan is threatened by the two people who don’t believe him: principal Ed Rooney and Ferris’ sister Jeanie. What ensues is a masterful comedic caper and one of the most loved high school movies of all time.

‘No other teen comedy either in the 80s or beyond would serve up such an innocent, generous, upbeat cheerfulness’ – Empire

Presented on 35mm film prints from the NFSA collection.

This film is part of the Back To School series at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. Recall the collision of adolescence and adulthood with these high school classics.
