A 22-year-old Braddon man has been arrested following an attempted aggravated robbery in Holt yesterday morning (Saturday, May 27).
About 9.40am the man entered a store at the Kippax Shopping Centre in Holt where he produced a knife and demanded the female shop assistant hand over the contents of the till.
The shop assistant told the offender that the cash register was broken before running to the back of the store and locking herself in a room. After trying to open the cash register, the offender left the store empty handed.
Police attended the Kippax shops and spoke to a number of shop owners who had seen a man acting suspiciously around the shopping centre that morning.
Around 12.25pm the alleged offender was located by police at an address in Florey. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House.
Acting Superintendent Donna Hofmeier said that information from the public helped police make a prompt arrest.
“The information provided on this occasion by the shop assistant and other staff from within the shopping centre, assisted police in identifying the alleged offender quickly,” Acting Superintendent Hofmeier said.
The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Monday, May 28) where he will be charged with attempted aggravated robbery.
