A young girl growing up in a white foster family is suddenly taken away and returned to the Aboriginal family she didn’t know. Decades later, she sets out in search of truth and deeper connection.

The Last Daughter is a powerful and inspiring documentary about Brenda Matthews’ journey to understand her story and reconcile the two sides of her family. Filmed all around Australia, it premiered at the 2022 Adelaide Film Festival, winning the Audience Award for Best Documentary.

‘…gracefully shows how old wounds can be healed and how distant memories can come back into colour and focus’ – The Guardian
