They’re getting a bit repetitive, so maybe we should give them some suggestions for new ones.
I’ll start off with:
“No fog?, no fog lights”

Actually I was impressed with the use of the display a short time ago…I assume it was the Police that placed it on there, about the missing child and number plates of the car that they were after….good use of the sign….
Maybe linked to the Police Twitter account as someone suggested….with serious accidents / bank ups….
At all other times, display temperature and simple message….

I am actually a fan of the sign showing the current temp. At least that would be informative, and would probably train people to actually read the sign (since they would be interested) rather then ignore it if it always has the same old message(s).
The ABC building at corner of Northbourne Ave and Wakefiled Ave has an electronic sign displaying the temp as does Paint Place at Mitchell.

Toyota already make one. They call it “Prius”.

Products like this do exist, I haven’t seen one with voice recognition, but PLEEEAAAASE don’t buy one. However good your intentions are, the last thing we need on the roads is something with the potential to make some drivers more aggressive and others more sanctimonious.
“The battery in this device is at 5%, please recharge immediately”
“The current temperature is -5 degrees, have a nice day”
Speed limit signs need more consistency than 80 60 40 within 200m of one another
“Don’t let pointless roadside signs distract you”
“Zombies ahead”
Or just post last nights footy scores!
They should say nothing, that way when there is an issue on the road ahead the fact that it is lit up will attract the drivers attention.

Voice recognition software would allow me to instantly generate a message to educate, warn, amuse the driver behind me. Is this available off the shelf or do I have to become a tech nerd and build it myself? Can’t wait to say ‘Back off turkey’ or ‘Turn your lights on’ or ‘Follow me to the pub’..
I too have thought that while driving to and from the snow of late.

I don’t believe that is correct – as I understand, the Australian Road Rules state that unless there are adverse weather conditions, no lights other than headlights can be used. Will see if I can get a reference for you.
And as an aside, try driving a low car and have a 4WD with ‘driving’ lights behind you. I assure you, it’s just as bad as someone sitting up your arse with their high beams on. I think they should be attached to high beams, so you can’t use them when there’s other traffic around.
Pretty much anything not a headlight is considered a ‘fog light’ according to ARR, not definition for ‘driving light’.
I would say I have to I have been blinded/dazzled by fog lights, headlight too bright (after market) but more often mis-adjusted headlights.
217 Using fog lights
(1) The driver of a vehicle fitted with front fog lights or rear fog lights must not operate the fog light unless the driver is driving in fog or other hazardous weather conditions causing reduced visibility.
Offence provision.
(2) In this rule:
front fog light means a light (other than a headlight) fitted to the front of a vehicle to improve illumination of the road in fog, snowfall, heavy rain or dust clouds.
rear fog light means a light (other than a brake light, a tail light, a number plate light or a reversing light) fitted to the rear of a vehicle to make the vehicle more easily visible from the rear in fog, snowfall, heavy rain or dust clouds.
219 Lights not to be used to dazzle other road users
A driver must not use, or allow to be used, any light fitted to or in the driver’s vehicle to dazzle, or in a way that is likely to dazzle, another road user.
Offence provision.

‘I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.’ With a red eye.
In Texas they have signs up with “Drive Friendly” on them

A simple “Be Nice” would be good, so long as the police start to make a bit of an effort to pull over the tailgaters, right-lane hoggers and fog-light morons.

Do you understand the difference between Fog lights and Driving lights?
Fog lights are those “extra” lights (often yellow as they penetrate fog better than white) taht mostly appeared on Dato’s, Escorts and Corollas in the 70’s & 80’s (yes some cars & 4×4’s have them today).
Driving lights are the “extra” lights that in most instances are part of the original car and sit under the bumper (or where the bumper used to be).
Driving lights unlike fog lights are pointed at the ground immediately infront of the car and are used to infill the gap between the car and the headlights. Fog lights are normally pointed at the same angle (or sligthly higher) than the car’s normal headlights.
Complaining about fog lights is fine, particularly at night when there is no fog, but given low percentage of cars that actually have them make this issue relatively miniscule.
Complaining about driving lights is another issue, however when used correctly are perfectly legal.
I don’t believe that is correct – as I understand, the Australian Road Rules state that unless there are adverse weather conditions, no lights other than headlights can be used. Will see if I can get a reference for you.

“Driving lights” is a concept invented by dicks who want to drive around with their fog lights on all the time.
The small lights under the bumper are sold as fog lights,
http://www.holden.com.au/vehicles/cruze/range/features
They are rarely pointed at the road, and it is high time the government raised some revenue by fining the idiots who insist on driving around with them on.

No… like when you suddenly stop due to the impact of the car into the bollard.
It’s a joke. Relax your sphincter a little.

I dunno if that will all fit on only one sign. Can it be shortened without losing the gist?
There is a way of sequencing the text so that you can fit longer messages on, but it is nearly impossible to read.
Like the time on the GDE (this is no joke) where is said on the first screen
“90kph speed limit on GDE”
then on the second screen
“applies from 19 July” (or some date more than 2 weeks in the future)
Due to how long it took to sequence the 2 messages I drove past it twice before I saw the second part of the message.
So I just drove at 90 anyway because I would have had an ironclad defence.

The mirrors inside and outside your car are not vanity mirrors. USE ‘EM to spot the cars you are selfishly holding up!
Think we should save all the electronic signs for the Kings Hwy!
Something along the lines of “Seriously just slow down!”
Would have to include all those pulling trailers, who for some reason are the first to rip your tailgate off trying to get around you in an over taking lane!
They should show the latest post on Twitter from ACTPol_Traffic – https://twitter.com/ACTPol_Traffic/
So much more useful than the crap they currently show.
“No benefit to road safety or traffic flow, wasted millions constructing me”
‘Stop being an idiot.
Yes, you!!!’
It would be right at least as often as it was wrong…
“Warning: Speed signs erected by ACT Government – they may be wrong.”
“At least you are not on an ACTION bus.”
“Sydney is the other way.”
‘Warning: Your driving and parking may be featured on The-RiotACT.”
How about road conditions such as “Road blocked due to accident. Take alternate route” places before you drive onto long stretches of road like the Park Way.
‘It’s foggy, lights on’
‘Speed LIMITS, not suggestions’
‘Look out, Canberrans about’
