Hackett house fire

ACT Fire & Rescue on scene of a house fire at Rivett Street, Hackett.

Firefighters are searching for the source of the fire with smoke escaping from a wall cavity.

Occupant of the two storey house called Emergency Triple Zero (000) at 9.03am and safely self evacuated.

Firefighters have isolated the source of the fire from a wall heater.

Crews are investigating between the upper and lower floor to ensure fire is extinguished.

Fire has not extended into adjoining neighbouring duplex property.

9:50am Saturday 1 September 2012

Fire has been extinguished.

Three fire pumpers, the Breathing Apparatus Van, the Hazardous Materials Unit and a command vehicle on scene.

Crews are currently conducting ventilation and air monitoring operations of the three bedroom house.

Estimated damage $20,000.

Fortunately, single occupant woke to the smell of smoke and called Emergency Triple Zero (000) as house did not have a smoke alarm.

ACT Fire & Rescue would like to remind residents the importance of having a working smoke alarm installed.
