Joy Burch has launched a new social housing model:
The construction of three new homes for people with disability represents a new model for building similar developments in the future, Minister for Community Services Joy Burch said today.
The ACT Government has made a significant contribution to the Project Independence project unveiled today through the availability of land and funding to construct up to two dwellings under the innovative social housing model.
The houses being built in Harrison are the brainchild of local businessman Glenn Keys. The project is the first of its kind in the ACT and Ms Burch said she hoped to see more of its kind in the near future.
“The new social housing model is based on up to 10 tenants living in three separate homes, which will allow the tenants to take responsibility for their lives,” Ms Burch said.
“Our aim is to generate sufficient revenue from this development, to allow further housing developments to be created into the future.”
If the good news tsunami leading up to the caretaker period is getting you down just wait until the ministerial teams have nothing better to do than gladhand at shopping centres.
