A 22-year-old Melba man has been arrested for the aggravated robberies at Subway restaurant in Emu Bank Belconnen.
About 10pm on Thursday 20 September, a man entered the Subway restaurant armed with a knife and demanded money. He was handed a sum of cash and without further incident, left the store on foot towards the Belconnen skate park.
The same business was subject to an aggravated robbery on 9 September with a similar offender description provided.
Belconnen Crime members arrested the man at his house yesterday (Friday, September 21).
Detective Superintendent Brett McCann, head of Criminal Investigations, said the arrest was again the result of the community and police working closely together.
“Our officers worked off the description provided by the staff at the store, and it was because of this detail that we were able to identify the offender, ultimately leading to his timely arrest.”
Detective Superintendent McCann said that while there is no noticeable spike in aggravated burglaries of late, ACT Policing was keeping a close eye on aggravated-related offences.
He will appear at the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday 22 September) charged with two counts of aggravated robbery. Bail will be opposed.
