ACT Policing is warning the community of the dangers of throwing objects at vehicles following an incident in Richardson overnight, in which a 48-year-old woman was injured.
Around midnight (Thursday, October 4), the woman and her husband were in a taxi travelling along Clift Crescent towards Chisholm when an object was thrown at the taxi, hitting the rear driver’s side door.
A second object was thrown at the taxi, which broke the rear driver’s side window, and hit the woman’s jaw. The taxi driver stopped the vehicle, and reported the incident to police.
The woman was taken to The Canberra Hospital by ACT Ambulance Service for treatment of injuries to her jaw. The taxi driver and male passenger were not injured.
South District Superintendent Paul Shakeshaft warned that this type of anti-social behaviour may have potentially tragic repercussions.
“Throwing objects at vehicles is not only reckless behaviour, but could lead to a driver losing control of their vehicle, resulting in a tragedy on our roads,” Superintendent Shakeshaft said.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw suspicious activity in Richardson overnight to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
