A testament to the refined craftsmanship of its owner – a master builder – this beautifully curated Harrison home has been cleverly designed as a residence fit for all seasons.

Custom built in 2009, 9 Adder Street uses biophilic principles to encourage connections with nature, and incorporates a range of earthy elements, including the widespread use of recycled timber and Australian hardwoods, and outdoor entertaining opportunities no matter the time of year.

The one-of-a-kind home is a sight to behold from its incredible timber-lined alfresco area, to the eye-catching curved wooden wall-to-ceiling feature in the theatre room, burnished concrete floors and exceptional workmanship.

Set on a landholding of almost 1400 sqm, and offering more than 500 sqm of build space, the property includes a formal lounge, spacious open-plan living and dining area with a feature fireplace, home theatre and dedicated office.

The stunning gourmet kitchen has an oversized island bench that anchors the space beautifully.

The four bedrooms are set in a private wing, opening up the rest of the home as a communal expanse and meeting place.

Outside, there is a solar-heated swimming pool and a covered alfresco area with a built-in outdoor kitchen. There is also a garage with a workshop and room for four cars.

“It’s a really clever design for all seasons,” says Adrian Giampietro from Luton Gungahlin.

“The owner built this home for his family to enjoy, which is a massive plus.

“I think there’s a different level of care and detail that goes into that, compared to employing a builder to just put the home together for you. Owner-builders will always use the best materials and the best care for their own home and their own family.

“It has a bit of a bush feel with the timber, concrete floors and raw materials that he’s used. People who like that have just fallen in love with this home. Most of the people who have come through just walk in and are shaking their heads, saying: ‘Wow!’ It’s so different, they’ve never seen anything like it.”

The current owner says the home has been the source of many happy times and fantastic memories, but it is now time to sell as the family prepares for a move to the South Coast.

“We had young kids at the time, so we designed it around them. We had the pool and the big alfresco area out the back for summer time, and in spring and autumn, we were always out the front around the fire pit, and then we built a pizza oven,” he says.

He says his background in carpentry and appreciation of timber helped shape the home from the outset, while some features were impulse decisions.

“Some of it evolved over time,” he says.

“The theatre room was something that came about because we were quiet at work for a week and the boys were sitting around, so I thought, let’s do something in here, so we decked it out with the timber on a whim.”

9 Adder Street in Harrison will go to auction on May 31 at 10 am. For more information, contact Adrian Giampietro from Luton Gungahlin on 0449 559 225. Keeping an eye on the market? Check out all the latest listings on Zango.
