When you hear the words ‘Yacht Club’, you probably don’t think of Canberra’s famously frigid winters.

Despite the shorter and colder days, the Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club is still operating, just with a slightly different focus.

Due to popular demand, from 11 July, the Yacht Club upstairs will be open for Friday and Saturday lunches and a bottomless Sunday Brunch.

Snapper & Co, Canberra’s best spot for lakeside dining and grassy picnics in the sun, will continue to trade seven days a week with a new menu.

“We’re really excited about the Winter Pop-up Menu, it’s focused on lots of hearty dishes to keep customers nice and warm. The new menu will have steak, winter soups and warm desserts, and new dishes will be added to the menu fortnightly,” venue manager Anna Pavlovic says.

“It’s very exciting to be able to bring a fresh new menu to customers every two weeks.”

The Yacht Club will reopen for Friday and Saturday lunches, with the same pop-up menu of Snapper plus a bottomless Sunday Brunch 11am to 3pm with a menu that will change monthly.

The general dining from Monday to Thursday is taking a break except for the Balcony, which is open for Snapper’s customers.

The balcony offers more seating with a view, complete with outdoor heaters to chase away the chill, and the sunny lawn is always available for picnics.

“The upstairs function rooms are still open for weddings, birthdays, corporate events, private events as well as the club’s monthly wine pairing dinners,” Ana says.

The next themed event is the Canberra Truffle and Wine Dinner, a four-course dining experience inspired by the region’s finest local produce, with fresh, aromatic truffles on Friday 25 July. Each course is thoughtfully paired with Australian wines to complement the depth of flavours of the truffles.

“There’s quite a lot going on at the club to get people out of the house. And there are new promotions every month to get excited about.”

But, if you really can’t make it out of the house, from 5pm to 8pm Monday to Friday, customers can get a 20 per cent discount on takeaway for the normal Snapper & Co menu.
