The Exorcist – Director’s Cut, Screening at the NFSA. Photo: NFSA
R18+ | 132 Mins | 1974 | 4K DCP | US | D: William Friedken | Closed Captions available
When a California film star (Ellen Burstyn) rents a house in Washington, her teenage daughter Regan (Linda Blair) begins to behave satanically. When medical science fails to help, the mother turns to an exorcist. In the version you’ve never seen, The Exorcist Director’s Cut deepens the battle for a soul – darker, with fleeting redemption, and evil that never truly leaves.
Famed for green projectile vomiting and head-swivelling, the Director’s Cut, released 27 years after the 1973 original, adds 11 extra minutes, including the most iconic and disturbing scenes.
‘The Exorcist is diabolically inspired: it’s still capable of making you jump and yelp.’ – The Guardian
PLEASE NOTE: This film is rated R18+. People under 18 cannot be admitted to the screening.
