Caitlin Cook is stepping into the role of ACT Labor Secretary after being elected unopposed.
It’s after previous secretary Ash van Djik resigned late last month.
ACT Labor president Sue Ducker described Ms Cook as a “powerhouse”.
“[She] brings a strong background in communications and campaigning, along with an excellent understanding of local politics and the Canberra community,” Ms Ducker said.
“She has played a key role in recent ACT election successes and brings a deep commitment to progressive Labor values and grassroots organising.”
Ms Cook has previously been media adviser to Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith and worked in policy areas.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr also noted Ms Cook’s experience as a “skilled communicator”.
“She brings the skills and experiences needed to support the party in future elections,” he said.
“One of the strengths of the ACT Labor branch is our strong and diverse membership and I’m confident that members will really enjoy working with Caitlin as secretary.”
Ms Cook has been on parental leave and will begin in her new role on 23 June.
She thanked members for the opportunity.
“Our members have put in so much work over the last few years to help re-elect Labor governments, both local and federally,” Ms Cook said.
“Now is the time to focus on our party and our members. I will work with every member to grow and strengthen our party – to put forward big ideas and bold policy that leads to real change in our community.”
