A Deakin man has been charged after the van he was allegedly driving crashed into the front of a Throsby home.

The 31-year-old is accused of being behind the wheel of a grey Volkswagen Transporter van, which failed to take a bend and crashed into a light pole before it smashed into the front of a house.

Emergency services were called at about 1:45 am on Sunday (29 June), where they found the van lodged between the front porch of the home and a retaining wall.

No one was injured.

The Deakin man was taken into custody after returning a positive breath screening test.

Police said he recorded a result of 0.171 blood alcohol content after undergoing a subsequent test at Gungahlin Police Station.

The man’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and he’s scheduled to front the ACT Magistrate’s Court at a later date to be formally charged with drink driving.
