A woman alleged to have sexually assaulted an underage teenage boy has been handed an extra charge and had her bail varied so she will be able to seek work again.

Jessica May Nakkan has been accused of sexually abusing a boy, who was aged under 16, over about four months in 2025.

She was arrested and handed her initial charges in June, then returned to the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday (1 July) where she was handed a new charge of maintaining a sexual relationship with a young person under special care.

The 30-year-old’s lawyer, Himangi Ticku of Andrew Byrnes Law Group, said her client would indicate pleas of not guilty to all charges.

Ms Ticku sought several bail variations for her client, which were supported by the prosecution.

But prosecutors also wanted an extra condition that she not be around anyone under 18 when at work even when other adults were present.

Ms Ticku said the proposed bail variations were partly requested so her client could apply for jobs, not so she could return to her previous workplace.

Magistrate Alexandra Burt said Ms Nakkan’s bail already included a condition that she not be in the presence of a person under 18 unless in the company of another adult.

She thought that already mitigated the alleged risks.

The magistrate granted the bail variations sought by Ms Ticku, but did not impose the extra condition sought by the prosecution.

As part of Ms Nakkan’s new bail conditions she can have access to one mobile phone but must provide the password to police and allow them access to the phone when requested.

She can also leave her home alone to attend work or to meet with her lawyers, but must tell police about any future employment.

Bail was continued and the matter was adjourned to 15 September.

Her previous charges include single counts of grooming a young person and possessing child exploitation material as well as three counts of committing an act of indecency on a person under 16 and two counts of sexual intercourse with a person under 16.
