Police are calling for information after a replica handgun was allegedly used in a road rage incident on the weekend.
A black Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD was stolen during a burglary in Denman Prospect early on Sunday morning (29 June), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.
Police spotted it several times that morning being driven at dangerous speeds across the ACT.
About 8 pm that night, the Jeep was apparently seen being driven erratically behind a white Toyota Corolla on Lady Denman Drive in Yarralumla.
The Corolla had an ACT Brumbies sticker on its rear.
At the intersection of Lady Denman Drive and Cotter Road, witnesses allegedly saw someone point a black handgun from the driver’s window of the Jeep at the passenger side of the Corolla for several seconds.
Police found the Jeep at a home in Oxley on Monday afternoon (30 June) and arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly possessing stolen property from the Denman Prospect burglary.
“During a subsequent search of the Jeep, investigators recovered a plastic air gun, designed to replicate a Glock handgun,” a police spokesperson said.
“Investigations are ongoing and officers anticipate further charges will be laid.”
Police urge the driver of the Corolla to come forward and also want to speak to anyone who has dash cam footage of the Jeep driving erratically on Sunday or Monday.
