Heard on 2cc this morning (about 10.45am) that people in a white van were in Fyshwick trying to sell speakers.
Looks like they’re back in town.

My dad bought a “Bose” home theatre system from them about 7 years ago. He thought he’d done a great job of talking them down from $800 to $400 till I pointed out that “B.O.S.Electronics” wasn’t the same brand synonymous with high end quality audio gear. He was a bit bummed when I pointed that out, but 7 years later and it still works and they still use it. Doubt my parents could hear the difference between a cheap and an expensive setup anyway.
LOL, that is classic!

Yeah, same story as above, although they flagged me down in the Phillip Westfield car park. Same story about being from Sydney, needing to sell the stuff cheap, and that it was all “High End”.
Pity that I had a smart phone to google their claims. It was all bullshit, but apparently the stuff isn’t nicked – just really cheap stuff being “inflated” in value by their little tale.
I remember that I ran into these guys a few years ago in the carpark between Belconnen mall and the old Belconnen Police station, back when it was still a carpark. They had a van load of projectors and surround sound amplifiers. The story was that they had come down from Sydney to do some install work, and some of the work had fallen through, so their boss had said to them “Don’t bring the extra gear back, just get rid of it by selling it from the back of the van”. In a van with no tools or ladders in it. Yeah, right. pull the other one.
The gear they had, and claimed was top of the line, was actually cheap, nasty, fresh off the boat from China, name brand knock offs. They tried to convince me that it was a little known, but very high quality gear, being offered for a fraction of it’s actual value. They had even gone to the trouble of putting fake price tags on the boxes.
What they didn’t know is that I work in the Audio Visual industry, and it was absolutely obvious that these guys had no idea what they were talking about.
I declined their offer politely, and then wandered over to the police station to warn the long arm of the law what was going on right under their noses. Apparently, several people had already advised the police of what they were up to, but as far as could be ascertained, they were completely legit. My reaction to that was along the lines of “Porcine Rear End”, but the police insisted that they were legit, and were doing nothing wrong.
I’m sure that most right minded people wouldn’t need to be warned that these guys are crooked, but if you are thinking of buying something from these guys, Don’t.
Just, don’t.
