I love dinners and lunches, but my favourite meal will always be breakfast. In my book, nothing says ‘indulge yourself’ better than a buffet breakfast. Being able to browse all the options, and feel like you have all the time in the world to savour each new plate of yummy things.

The breakfast buffet at Canberra’s Park Hyatt is exceptional, offering an impressive range of choices. It feels luxurious and lavish, making it the obvious choice for a celebration. I’ve enjoyed several birthday breakfasts here, and even marked the birth of my second son with an extra-special morning feast.

Today, we’ve come to rediscover everything the buffet has to offer. It stretches decadently across inviting stations, set against a gleaming expanse of black and white diamond tiles.

The offerings are so tempting, we hardly know where to begin.

Hot breakfast items stay perfectly warm in red casserole dishes: plump sausages, curls of fried bacon, baked beans, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, hash browns, and more.

The egg station always brings me joy – cooked any way you like. I opt for an omelette, pillowy and oozing with vegetables and cheese, cooked just right.

I love the smoky, grilled flavour of the bacon, and those miniature hash browns are mouthfuls of golden crunch.

You can stack up fluffy buttermilk pancakes and choose from a fun array of toppings, including a strawberries-and-cream option with both fresh and compote berries. Maybe I don’t get out much, but the honey service feels so extra, and I love it.

The bread station offers a wide variety of breads to suit every taste. Toast it yourself, then spread it with what feels like endless choices.

We select from a diverse array of charcuterie, including cream cheese marinated in Italian herbs, an assortment of cheeses, and dried fruits.

How good is Bircher muesli? Among the swathe of cereal options sits a tureen of creamy, soaked Bircher muesli, studded with goji berries and grated apple. A variety of add-ons includes not just fruit, but also a range of seeds and nuts.

If you’re aiming for healthy, you’re spoiled for choice.

The vegan coconut yoghurt bowl with mango-passionfruit coulis is pure luxury; layers of creamy coconut yoghurt topped with sweet, tangy coulis that delights my taste buds.

At the salad station, I built my own plate: minimal greens, plenty of smoky baba ganoush, marinated goat’s cheese, and Mediterranean vegetables. The goat’s cheese is incredible.

The root juices are berry-bright. I usually need more sweetness to start my day, but sipping one of these feels like I just added a year to my life.
