In case you haven’t seen you can now see 3d Canberra buildings and terrain in Google Earth.
That’s right, the next level of peering over your neighbours fence can now be done in all its 3D glory.

For those people who like to perv at 3D pictures of buildings.
Do you think you might just have a problem?
Jivra might be onto something here. But in the meantime where can you pick up the glasses ? Seem to remember about 20 years ago Cap 7 TV had a special 3D show, and you got your glasses from shoprite. And I can’t find them.

Fair call, but an honest mistake given the images provided and the lack of detail in the article.
To see what justsomeaussie is on about you will need to upgrade to version 7 of Google Earth (pc). Prior versions of Google Earth will only have the sketchup models that have been available for quite a while.
Yep, on second inspection there does appear to be 3D terrain and buildings. They appear to have missed some parts of Tuggeranong and Gungahlin though.
You may need to upgrade to the latest version of Google Earth, whatever version I was using wasn’t working.

NearMap had poor quality angled imagery anyway. Google’s implementation and quality of 45 degree imagery is superb.
Actually thinking about it, their angled imagery was crap.
I wish Google would update their imagery a bit more frequently.

Whilst Google Earth does have 3 models of select buildings in Canberra, I think what you’re referring to is the multidirectional aerial photography on Google Maps.
nearmap.com had similar (but higher quality and more frequently updated) photography available, but they’re now behind a paywall.

Nice try but no cigar.
I was specifically refering to Google EARTH. Load it up, click on 3D buildings. Canberra has been mapped using a LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) (i’ll guess) which has produced 360 degree terrain/buildings/trees in every area I can find.
On the image above (which I didn’t provide), clicking on the little Earth tab on the top right will only take to you the few 3D moded buildings NOT the LIDAR projection of Canberra.
Works find on Google Earth on my iPad and home application.
