Police are urgently trying to find the mother of a newborn baby discovered outside the South Tuggeranong fire station in Conder this morning.
Emergency services were alerted at about 7:20 am today (Thursday, 27 November) after the baby was found at the ACT Fire & Rescue station on the Tharwa Drive-Drakeford Drive roundabout.
The baby, believed to have been born within the past 24 hours, was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Police say it had no apparent injuries.
ACT Policing says their “sole concern” is the health and welfare of the mother, and is urging her to seek urgent medical care – either by going to a hospital, calling an ambulance or contacting police.
They’re also asking anyone who thinks a friend or family member may be the mother to encourage her to “seek medical help as soon as possible”.
“Anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of people or vehicles at or near the fire station overnight and early this morning should come forward,” police say.
