UPDATE, Monday, 22 December: An injured man died in suspicious circumstances in central Canberra on the weekend.
Police were called to a unit complex on Lowanna Street, Braddon, around 11:30 pm on Saturday (20 December) after reports of an injured man, but arrived to find him dead inside a unit.
Speaking on Sunday (21 December), Detective Acting Superintendent Anthony Brown said police believed the man died that night. The death has been deemed suspicious.
“The circumstances that were discovered by the police in attendance led them to that decision,” he said.
“We believe we have identified the male victim, we’ve spoken to his family, but further inquiries are still being conducted in relation to that.”
He believed the man was from Canberra, but did not live at the unit complex. He did not release further details about the man to allow for time to ensure his family was fully notified and aware of the circumstances.
Detective Acting Superintendent Brown said a 37-year-old female resident from the unit complex was assisting police with their enquiries and was “somewhat cooperating” with them.
“At the moment, she’s just assisting us with our enquiries,” he said.
He did not think there was any ongoing risk to the public.
Police had no further update as of Monday morning (22 December).
