UPDATE 5:30 pm – Transport Canberra has assured the community that a “data transmission issue” that stopped the new ‘construction’ bus timetable from being viewed in the MyWay+ app has been fixed.

A statement outlined the information was now available in both the app and the Transport Canberra Journey Planner.

“Transport Canberra can also confirm that data is now available to all third-party journey planners. We are aware that a number of these have now implemented this data, including both Google and NextThere,” they said.

“Transport Canberra thanks the community for their patience while we worked to rectify the data transmission issue. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused for passengers on the first day of the updated bus network.”

Politicians and patrons alike expressed their frustration about the issue throughout the day.

It’s not the first glitch to impact the embattled MyWay+ system, which has been riddled with problems since its launch in late 2024.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr, and eventually Transport Minister Chris Steel, both apologised about the system’s failures late last year after a censure motion was passed by the Legislative Assembly.

Shadow Transport Minister Mark Parton said it wasn’t a surprise that issues were continuing.

“When it comes to anything in the transport space, the default [response from people] is: it ain’t gonna work,” he said.

“It’s a great disappointment to Canberrans, but it’s one of the reasons that this government … [is failing] because time and time again we end up with scenarios that make people say: ‘you know what, it’s just easier to get in the car’.”

Monday, 2 February, 10:30 am – Canberrans and politicians have expressed their disbelief that the MyWay+ app and journey planner were unable to show the new construction bus network timetable for the first school drop-off of 2026.

Transport Canberra was aware of the issue at 6 pm on Sunday (1 February) and issued an official statement this morning (2 February).

“The updated bus network is currently not available through the MyWay+ app or Journey Planner on the Transport Canberra due to a data transmission issue,” it said.

“This issue is also impacting service information on third-party journey planners such as Google and Apple maps.

“Transport Canberra is working with technology partners to urgently rectify this issue and apologises for any inconvenience.”

Patrons were directed to the bus timetables available on the Transport Canberra website, printed at bus stops, or by calling 13 17 10 for help.

ACT Greens transport spokesperson Andrew Braddock wasn’t impressed.

“This morning, Canberrans were disappointed but not surprised to find the MyWay+ app had not been updated for the new public transport timetables,” he said.

He claimed it was because there had been “inadequate” community testing and an “overreliance on the competency” of system contractor NEC.

“We’ve had over a year of the botched rollout of MyWay+ and the ACT Government is still making significant mistakes,” Mr Braddock said.

“They knew this change was coming two months ago.

“It’s not good enough, and Canberrans deserve better.”

Patrons took to social media to vent their anger.

“You’ve had how long to get this right?” one asked.

“If the service isn’t ready to be rolled out, can we confirm that nobody will be charged for participating in your open-beta testing?” wrote another.

Further updates will be communicated via Transport Canberra’s social media channels.

More to come.

Last time I heard from the oafish Andrew Braddock he was out in the media publicising discussions with the Liberals to form government after the last election and claiming nothing was off the table! Understandably, there was much alarm within the Greens management not to mention members and Shane Rattenbury was forced to step in to deny such talks.

Mr Braddock is a loose cannon and should be hidden away permanently!

Is it any wonder that people abandon public transport in Canberra to get back in their cars?

ahh this explains why the bus I had to catch to my dentist appointment didn’t show up, resulting in having to call a taxi to make my appointment time. The $27 taxi fare was not on my bingo card for today.

I almost called another taxi for the return-to-work journey because there was very outdated information on timetables at the stop. Was about to give up on it all as the app was saying it was another 40 minutes until the bus was due when I spied it coming around the corner.

Just remember Transport Canberra decided that passengers didn’t need real-time service information at bus interchanges and major stops. This is the sort of situation where such information is essential and why it is considered mandatory in almost every other transport network on the planet.

Has anyone introduced these clowns to the concept of user testing ?

Apparently today is the government’s method of live user testing. How much did we pay for this turkey again?

Yep, test it on school kids, just brilliant.

Perhaps the e-safety commissioner has placed a social media ban on MyWay and it’s a deliberate ploy.
