Wood floor sanding and polishing

How did you go with your floor as I am in the same predicament

We actually did it ourselves. Kennards in Canberra have the sanders. We hired them for a weekend and sanded the floors. There are a couple of good how to guides on the net.

Then bought a giant tin of polish/stain/sealer from Bunnings (we still have half a tin for if we need to touch up or re do). Over 2 days did about 6 coats. I remember noticing one fault when we did it, but no idea where it is after putting furniture in. Did it 6 years ago and it’s still pretty good.

So, if money is tight, or if you can’t find anyone to to suit you, this is another option us complete novices pulled off.

Van from Mystic Timber Floors (0409 782 344) laid our floor and it looks great. He also does sanding and repolishing.

I recently used Nelson for a sand and polish. Very happy with the results. It was a small job – took around 3 days, 1 for sand, 2 coats of varnish. Sand gets everywhere but worth it for the result. Nelson’s number is 0422 258 641
