I’m thinking of purchasing one of these tours as a Christmas present.
I was just wondering whether anyone has done one?
Are they worth the money etc?

I second (third, forth, tenth?) al those that have said it is an awesome experience. I did both in one day four years back and I was one of the best days of my life. This year I gave my folks a meet a cheetah experience for my mum’s birthday. You couldn’t get the grin of her face for days after.
No they haven’t been declawed. And cheetahs are actually quite placid compared to other big cats.
Declawed, what a silly thing to speculate.
It’s a great, if a little expensive, idea. Interesting they picked the cheetah to be the feline to get closest to considering they can’t completely retract their claws. I hope they haven’t been declawed!!
Ohhhh I did the Zoo Venture tour a few years ago and LOVED IT !!! I would so do it again..
But this time maybe not on the hottest day in January….
It’s great!
As long as your partner isn’t massively tall!
My partner bought me tickets for my birthday, we went, he is 6’4, and the Cheetah’s were tracking him, got all sketchy around him, were fine around me though!
It was a great experience, do it!

Book ASAP though! Especially now it’s gotten a big wrap on RiotACT!
And tell them they should buy an ad.
i bought both tours for my partner for her 30th birthday – of course i had to buy tickets for me too 🙂 both tours absolutely amazing experiences, and well worth the money. patting a cheetah was so cool – and we got to pat 3 of them because they all happened to be lying together at the time!
I took my partner to do a Meet-a-cheetah in 2006, and both she and I thought it was great. No, it isn’t cheap, but it’s not something most people get to do; if you can afford it I think it’s definitely worth it. Was a great experience with a good amount of time patting the cheetah.
It would have been half the price if I’d just got my partner to do it, but that wouldn’t be as fun as me going too :).
Meet-a-cheetah is awesome – DO IT!
Took Mrs. Nifty for her b’day and we had a great time, they are stunningly beautiful creatures and to be sitting there patting them and scratching behind their ears while they make those amazing purring noises is something I’ll never forget. It’s also nice to know your money is going to a good cause.
Must’ve been a good idea because Mrs. Nifty stole the idea a few months later!

I got my partner a ticket to meet the cheetah for her b’day last year.
She rated it as one the best experiences of her life.

I don’t know personally, but the dude I sit next to at work has photos on his desk of when he did one years ago. Funnily enough just today he was talking about it again and said “you should hear them purr”.
Holy crap – it that you who sits next to me Angry Henry? But your real name is not Henry?! 😛
Nope sorry mate! Not me!
I think it’s just one of those things you take away from that experience, you don’t expect a carnivorous cheetah to sit in your lap and purr…
The zoo dudes should maybe use that as a follow up to the ‘a touching experience’ line they’ve been running with.
‘The national zoo and aquarium – You should hear them purr’.
Then just to confuse people they could show a picture of a fish with sfx of a cheetah purring dubbed underneath… Abstract, but saucy.
Thanks so much Charchar – that’s the perfect gift idea. You’re a genius for thinking of it … I’m completely stealing your idea.

Ooooh. That’s a GREAT idea. Have you got any more info? How much is it? What’s involved?
Yeah i also did the Zooventure tour. It was pretty cool and you got to learn lots about the animals. Got a bit mad that randoms kept joining our group and listening in for free… but they didnt get to feed the lions chicken drummies though! :o)
I did the zooventure tour a couple of years ago and it was really, really good. Highly recommended and worth the money IMHO. You get up close and feed a wide range of animals (otters are the cutest – cougars the most fightening – sun bear cleverest). The keepers are knowledgeable but keep the tour moving so it isn’t too lecture heavy. There’s a bit of a hard sell for membership at the end, but otherwise it’s exactly as you’d want it to be.
I haven’t done the meet a cheetah, but I reckon it’d be pretty awesome.
I’m not too sure how much it costs but yeah, I’ve been on the Zooventure and met a cheetah and both experiences were so awesome. It’s such a different experience from just walking around looking at the animals.
The zooventure covers more stuff than the cheetahs I think but getting up close to the big cats is unbeleivable, they’re quite placid and you should hear them purr!
