ACT Policing has arrested a 34-year-old Chisholm man following a 60 second pursuit in Conder early this morning (Friday, 29 March).
Around 12.20am, police were conducting random breath testing (RBT) on Tharwa Drive in Conder, when a green Hyundai Excel approached the area, turned its lights off and pulled over to the side of the road.
Officers approached the vehicle on foot when the man was seen to proceed over the medium strip in an attempt to avoid the RBT.
A pursuit commenced along Drakeford Drive, Gordon through the roundabout at the intersection of Tharwa and Drakeford Drive before the vehicle collided with a speed sign.
The vehicle continued for approximately 400 metres before it hit the curb and stopped.
The male driver was taken into custody and conveyed to the Tuggeranong Police Station where he recorded a breath analysis reading of 0.177.
Traffic Operations Sergeant Rod Anderson said that despite warnings a minority of the public still choose to ignore messaging about road safety and drink driving.
“ACT Policing has joined forces with NSW Police for Operation Crossroads this Easter weekend targeting dangerous driving, drink and drug driving, speeding, fatigue and seatbelts across the region,” he said.
The man was later released from custody and will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
