Last night the internet in Canberra seemed particularly ropey.
Iinet dropped out in strange and unusual ways for me and many friends on Telstra infrastructure.
Anyone else experience anything strange?

iiNet had a scheduled outage published on their website for broadband users in NSW and WA for at least a week before it went out last night. They were doing upgrades of some kind, probably to handle all the dowload since we got upgraded from 120GB downloads to 400GB downloads for free 🙂
Best bet is to check their website once or twice a week if you want to know what is going on.
first question I asked when I called them was “is there maintenance”. It wasn’t, there was an issue at the exchange. Maintenance outages are usually scheduled later into the evening.
looking at Whirlpool this morning leads to this link

and this comment by one of the reps.
The outage was caused by a power failure within our backhaul providers network, which also affected other ISP’s at the same time.
Sorry, it’s my fault. I typed google into google.
I guess Jen was right.

Yep, me too. iinet dropped out around 9:40pm. Tried to get it back for a while before giving up and going to bed. All is fine this morning.
Nothing on their page to explain it – must have been a local/exchange issue?
My iinet dropped out for about 45mins, the line was fine but their servers wern’t responding. This was out at Queanbeyan mind you. I rang iinet to demand justice and left a message for a callback on their IT support number, by the time they rang back it was working so I cbf answering the calls lol.
