Pipes are insulated Al, the exterior you see is there to hold the insulation in and make it look all shiny. This is to meet the ‘shiny is good, shiny is very good’ rule of aesthetics.

It looks like it is insulated and sheathed. The sheathed look makes it look uninsulated if you know what I mean….
