ACT Policing are calling for anyone who knows people associated with the above car to get in touch with them as part of the investigation into the Hughes shooting:
Police are appealing for the public’s assistance in their ongoing investigation into the shooting death of a 28-year-old man in Whittle Street, Hughes in the early hours of Monday, May 10.
A 20-year-old man has been charged in relation to this crime.
However, police believe others had conspired in this crime and by displaying a key component to the investigation – a 2003 black Kia Spectra sedan with ACT registration plates – are hoping this may prompt witnesses to come forward with any information which would assist in their identification.
The Kia sedan is distinctive because it has significant panel damage on the passenger’s side and is missing the passenger’s side mirror. It was in this condition on the night of the crime.
Police believe the gunman, who was lying in wait, approached from out of the darkness in Whittle Street and shot the victim in his vehicle without warning or provocation.
This Kia sedan is important to the investigation because around the time of the shooting, ACT Policing General Duties police on a routine patrol stopped this vehicle for speeding in Deakin.
The Kia driver and occupants were allowed to leave when the officer was urgently required to respond to the shooting incident. The officer noted the driver’s name, cautioned him and left.
The three male passengers in this Kia sedan on that night remain unidentified and are now significant persons of interest in this case.
