Canberra has recorded a decline in year-on-year April retail spending for the first time since the Australian Bureau of Statistics began recording monthly data in April 1982, according to The Canberra Times.
According to ABS data, retail sales declined 0.7 per cent to $406.3 million in April.
ACT spending peaked in November 2013 in the lead up to Christmas, with $417 million being forked over. Spending has fallen every month since then.
This goes against National trends, which have increased 0.2 per cent during April.
