Beautifully crafted, with character, warmth and a consistent design language all the way through, 108 Duffy Street is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom family home with a great story to tell.

This stunning home is bursting with personality. It began life as a cottage but has since been greatly extended by the owner’s son through Green House Architecture, who painstakingly worked to make it a special home.

“Design-wise, it’s amazing. Very organic, with rich colours and tones, timber panels, gas fireplaces, and timber as the visual focal points,” home.by holly owner Holly Komorowski says.

“All that and the high ceilings, the double glazed windows and the northerly aspect make everything so practical. It’s a home that speaks for itself”

The home is uniquely Ainslie and, in many ways, uniquely Australian. The colours and design suit the surrounding bushland aesthetically, while the actual construction of the home means it is warm in winter and cool during hot Canberra summers. Even the ochre coloured walls tell a story.

“That stunning burnt orange on the exterior is from earth-render sourced from Goulburn red sand. It’s an amazing touch; it adds a lot of personality,” Holly says.

The floor plan perfectly suits a growing family, with three beautifully appointed bedrooms, a dining/living area that opens out into a big backyard, a front lounge room and a study on the top floor that could easily be converted into another bedroom.

“The home is very versatile,” Holly says.

“The upstairs study space means that busy parents have somewhere to retreat to or to work, but it can also be converted into a bedroom if need be. While the living spaces are gorgeous and invite communal family time.”

The living/kitchen area opens to the deck, meaning evening meals are easy to bring into the garden, which is a beautiful green space in its own right, with established trees, shrubs and bushes.

“But the centre of this house is the front lounge room. Sun-drenched and commanding an elevated park view, it’s easy to see why the current owner has used it as an art studio. It’s an inspiring space,” Holly says.

Yet somehow, there is more, as situated at the rear of the property is a garden cabin, built from cedar, perfect as a hobby room, studio or study, which makes the home even more adaptable.

Situated on a 1094m² corner block in the quiet suburb of Ainslie with schools, shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance, not to mention Mt Ainslie, the location is ideal.

“It’s quintessentially Ainslie. The home captures the personality, the community and the environment of the suburb. When we first held inspections, plenty of locals came to see it because it was such an exemplar of the street and the suburb. People adore the design and the aesthetics,” Holly says.

“The architectural firm Green House has designed a few environmental homes of this type of Duffy Street, so it’s pretty well-known in the area,” Holly says.

It is easy to attract a crowd when a house looks like this, and the finer details reveal themselves the closer one looks. Terracotta tiles, brush box timber floors, redgum timber on the kitchen tops and angled steel shades on the windows for summer all contribute to the home’s character and functionality.

In a superb location, with an adaptable floor plan and a gorgeous design that never compromises on practicality and liveability, 108 Duffy Street is a standout home on a street already known for quality houses.
