Detectives from ACT Policing’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team will today (Thursday, October 20) seek the extradition of a 44-year-old man from Wilcannia in New South Wales (NSW).
Police will allege the man sexually assaulted a 39-year-old woman in her north Canberra home on September 29 this year. It will also be alleged that he later left Canberra and travelled to Wilcannia, where he was arrested on Tuesday (October 18) by NSW Police.
The alleged offender will face the Wilcannia local court this morning where extradition will be sought for the 44-year-old to face the charge of sexual intercourse without consent in the Australian Capital Territory.
If the extradition is granted he is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, October 22.
