An end to Johnboy? [With poll]

Happy Birthday!! No point changing it now unless you’re really bored of it. You’re a Canberra institution, along with things like Parliament House, Telstra Tower and the Belconnen Owl.

“Johnboy” is cool on this site. For broader professional applications John Griffiths is a pretty cool name. Now is probably the time to change – we’d get used to it.

In the true Aussie spirit, you’re not allowed to give yourself a nickname, your mates have to be the ones that come up with it for you – and you’ve got absolutely no say in what they decide whether you like it or not.

Two degrees of separation or more +/or a rhyme in regards to the origin and meaning of the name adds a bit of confusion/insider knowledge fun also.

Happy 40th! I hope you are feeling cheery about it and not having a 40-freak-out (like I did) and instead celebrating both you and the website (and community) that exists because of your hard work, dedication and doubtless sacrifices over the years 🙂

I think we should have 3 tax payer funded studies into naming alternatives, and after 12 more years of deliberation you can change it to Johnboy

After 13 years of building up your brand, I think you should stick with it. Any of the alternatives which occur to me have problems – Jack (the Right Hon. Mr Waterford QC, MP has that one stitched up); Jacko (I think not); Griff/Griffo (trying too hard, in denial, and just as likely to provoke vicious Twitter attacks); JohnG (maybe, but would sound a bit like you had given up).

With apologies to Madam Cholet, I will suggest that 40 is the new 29, and that you are thus really only two years older than when you got started – so nothing to worry about. Over the next few years, there might be a few moments when the “boy” bit will feel a bit sad, but stick with it long enough and it will eventually be loveable (again) – “isn’t he marvellous, at his age”.

Anyway, enjoy the day, and keep up the good work – we need you.
