The pro-dragway lobby have already stated that we can raise the money privately. In fact, most of the money required has already been promised. However, cave people like dragwayaway will ensure it never happens and jon nohope loves to do what the minoritys say.

peter@home – I’m sick of this argument about school closing, they have never been fixed items. If they were operating without many students and the money could be better used elsewhere, then why not. Lets face it, Canberra is not a big city, if your kids have to walk an extra 500 meters to school then big deal, think of it as exercise for them. It used to take me an hour and a half to get to school when I was a kid. Also, how about you take some time out of your day to walk them there safely, rather then whine about busy roads etc… I’ve taken a significant pay cut to enable me to do this with my kids and you’d be surprised how happy it may make you to spend this extra time with the littlies.

Your also not the only one to suffer through the fires, but think about this… Stanhope was kind enough to help those that weren’t insured and he also waived building laws (e.g. 12 months to build)to help people save enough to rebuild. Also, I’m not against a dragway per se, but if it would be such a big money spinner for the ACT as the pro lobby say, why isn’t this being publicaly funded by companies (e.g. Snow et al).

perhaps you should consider that David Mathews (spelled his name right after the correction post) is not the only candidate that I have known personally – I don’t care whether he wants me to vote for him, it’s not going to happen. I will sign a stat dec to the effect that I am in no way politically affiliated to him, as it would be a conflict of interest for me from a work perspective – I have business dealings with him, and cannot mix the two. I have several clients that rely on my impartiality, I do not mix politics with business, that would create far too many issues for me.

I, (not putting my real name here) can swear and avow that I have no political affiliations to any party who is presenting a candidate to the ACT Government elections.

I will base my vote on my convictions, that the party that gets elected deserves to win, hasn’t made an absolute mess of the job up until now, and I will receive information, probably from this site, in regards to the potential Chief Minister – whoever that will be.

How subtle do you think you’re being by “casually” referring to Dave Matthews, first in another thread – http://region.com.au/?p=7786 – and then starting a whole new thread this time around to guage public interest (or to see if his TV commercials are cutting through – my guess is that they’re not).

Well I tell you what I know. Dave is apparently in IT millionaire and belongs to the “right” faction within the Labor Party. He has probably already written his maiden speech and consider’s himself a shoe-in for a Molonglo seat; in fact he probably thinks he is entitled to it.

Very funny anyway Peterh – you should have employed a more nuanced approach to measuring your candidate’s popularity; like seeking RA’s views on other candidates instead??? or spending some of Dave’s millions on conducting internal polling!

I would prefer to vote elsewhere. I don’t like the local ALP, nor will I vote for them. the reference to the other thread, I had completely forgot I did it.

I can tell you this:

I have suffered through the fires, my father lost his house and memories, we tried to find some items in the ashes, to no avail. Stanhope did not seem to care, he could have given the victims their GST back, but instead, he took the money and used it to fight the coroner’s decision!

Then, they closed the school I had bought a house near to be able to allow my kids easy and safe access to the school, without crossing busy roads!

with “consultation”, which mattered a pinch of sh!t to the govt.

I lost my belief in the local ALP at that stage. the dragway would have been great for all the people who like to see motor sport of any kind.

I will not continue to fight with you over this. if you don’t like that it was an honest request, to see if it was the same david that I knew, fine.

ssip ffo. try seeing if you can get one of the candidates to subject themselves to the Riot Act, so we can find out what they stand for.

A bit of topic but this politically related so… I’m getting sick of seeing single issue stickers on cars in the ACT like “I want a Dragway and I vote”. Good for you if you have them, please enjoy your single issue life. Can anybody tell me where I can buy, or have printed a bumper-sticker that say’s:

“I am ambivalent towards a dragway, I fish, cycle, drive cars, ride motorbikes, like fireworks, have pets, have kids in school, am heterosexual, think the cops, firies and ambo’s are doing a fine job, hate beggers in Civic, hate drugs,hate light sentences for criminals, like drinking both beer and wine and I VOTE”?

Ok, I was intrigued so i clicked on the David Mat(t)hews link. He’s got Jon’s hair! Is it an ALP thing that you have to look like Sonic Hedgehog?

But seriously – the first things that you read on his site are: about ME; MY vision; help ME; and donate to ME.

so, are you there? going to answer me? if I knew david really well, as you claim, wouldn’t I know how to spell his name? my post was just a query, as many other people do every day. PS – he is not my candidate, that would create a conflict for me, considering that I won’t be voting labor….

I know of him, and have already asked whether RA will be running ACT govt candidate email interviews for all the candidates. apart from the entertainment value, we can also get an insight into the candidates by their responses.

firstly, the-leak, I did not know whether the david matthews I know was the same person that was running for labor at the election, and secondly, if you saw any of my other posts, you would notice that I am pro labor Federal, but definitely not for act govt. I will be casting a conscience vote – I cannot vote for a party that did not warn me re the oncoming fires, took the coroner to court over her verdict, did not keep a promise of a dragway (where the hell is my dragway) and denied any involvement re the placement of the power station….

I voted labor at the fed election, because I was sick and tired of libs and their dismissal of real issues.

and mark me, if the new govt (lib or labor) does not do a good job after they are elected here, I will be bleating just as loudly again.
