Hi Rioters.
In recent days, a few orange bicycles have popped up chained to traffic signs in the Tuggeranong area (Parkway, Kambah and Athllon Drive, Greenway).
Any idea of their purpose/origin?

They seem to have disappeared within a few days. I’d guess they may have been collected either by those who placed them, or by TAMS.
They are in the TCCS paint shop being re-done in rainbow.

I heard from a mate at my gym that they’re opening at the old Gold’s Gym on Anketell street. That was a pretty shocking location, I didn’t ever see many people go to Gold’s and maybe the lack of parking within proximity to the gym hurt them in that regard. Hopefully this new gym doesn’t go bust and creates comparison with Anytime Fitness and Club Lime in Tuggeranong!

I think I saw one of these in Tuggers today being ridden by a guy who was dropping leaflets in a mailbox, probably promoting the new gym mentioned. He didn’t stop at my mailbox after he saw me – probably figured I looked fit enough already.

The bikes are part of advertising for a new gym – Orangetheory Fitness that is planned to open in Tuggeranong later in the year
I saw one of those orange bikes at the Hyperdome today on Anketell St, just down from the former Gold’s Gym.
I would suggest to Orangetheory fitness not to bother opening in the old Gold’s Gym space. One of the things which killed Gold’s was the lack of free parking. I had to go there at 2AM and make sure I was finished by 7:30AM when pay parking started.
When choosing a gym make sure they have their own secure, free car parking space. Don’t contribute to the ACT Government’s fitness tax.
Mrs_M beat me to it. I had me own questions about the orange bikes.
An internet search brought up some American examples where the orange bikes were left around a location as “marketing” prior to the launch of a certain gym/fitness franchise.
Do we do that sort of marketing here in Australia? If the bikes are for marketing purposes, are they aporoved billboards or are they in fact litter (abandoned non working bicycles are rubbish)? Does anyone else find the idea tacky as they are mimicking the ghost bikes (the white painted bikes left at sites of fatal accidents involving bicycles) which do have a strong sentimental and social purpose?
