Automatic Number Plate Recognition coming to you

Most of us have heard about or seen the new ANPR camera the traffic police now use in the ACT. Now the manufacturers are using it in Westfield and service stations. With vehicles checked at servo entrance, the operator is alerted to fail-to-pays/drive-off offenders [thru a national database] with such history before they get the hose off the hook. Westfield photographs every vehicle coming in and reconciles any ticket issued to proper car, records time in carpark, that car’s regular use etc, and allows for a reduced grace period (more $ for Westfield). Kind of like black strip on credit card – details wide open for collecting/selling. This could also put a stop to public servants parking in the shade all day!

Used to … maybe still do … those security guys use ACT Government parking infringement books. real thing. all communication ends up thru Urban Services [strange title for a non-service ]

They never used Police, they have their own Parking/Security Officers.

This will be just like ANU when they used to police their own parking a few years back. They can put a ticket under your wiper, but they have no way of following it up. Its just up to you to pay out of the goodness of your heart, as they have no access to find out who you are.

Yes they do! They can and will take you to court and make you pay. Try it and see…

I certainly think that any commercial building that is built should also be putting in enough parking for the people who’ll be working there. That they don’t is bizarre!

Wo Hoo –

I negotiate for company provided parking. I know it is a strange concept amongst the pubes out there, but I simply couldn’t be bothered searching for parking – That way, the company purchases a parking spot for little old me, and it’s all good.

I find this news awesome – this way, the shopping centres get their parking spaces back from those who are stealing the service (Those who participate are probably stealing government pens).

Hey, why doesn’t the CPSU (or whoever they are called) negotiate the concept of company provided parking into the next certified agreement…..

Yes Mr Bitter man .. those guys do that shit all day and can spot an expired label at speed and even smooth tyres while they are turning. And wont be long before new policy of ALL NSW police cars carrying radar; that’s the Hi-Lux, paddies and other secret types. I should post re the coming plans for (idea anyhow) to put front plates back on motorbikes. Cameras 🙂

I wonder if Westfield would be able to legally gain access to names of registered owners of number plates, or if they would run some sort of survey or competition where one of the questions was “whats you rego number…”

Bring on the technology!

I was pulled over in Bungendore last Sunday arvo for an RBT, when coming home from the coast. The copper did my RBT, then walked to the front of the car and checked the rego label. Then, as he was walking around to my window, I presume to say ‘All good, off ya go’, I heard him scream out to a Hilux who was slowly passing by ‘Oi – pull over!!!!’. I gave him a puzzled look, and he called out ‘Expired label’ and took off running 50 metres up the road to where the Hilux was pulling over…..
