Ah, that’s what that was. I was walking to lunch yesterday and noticed it was decidedly smokey, and I thought, if only I had access to the Riot Act now, I reckon I’d have an answer to what that’s all about!
I love it when the city smells like a camp fire. It is ever so charming!

We are constantly informed that the air-con system is “sealed” and does not draw in external odours.
I seriously doubt it.
The vent for drawing in air for the aircon is normally situated in a place that people don’t frequent. At least that’s the idea. But sometimes they do get it wrong and have it located in the worst possible area (e.g. where smokers congregated).
As for the smoke from the hazard reduction burning, unfortunately you’ll have to take it as bad luck of the direction of the wind and send your asthmatic colleagues home.

Just on the point of a lot of smoke, and therefore a huge smell of burning, my building is absolutely filled with the smell of smoke.
I’ve complained about the fact that strong odours, more often than not greasy cafe smells make their way into our air-con system, but the buidling owners do nothing about it. Today a lot of people in our office and in the building are complaining about the intense smoky smell.
Can anyone categorically inform me if odours from the air outside should be able to get into the air-con system? It’s definitely coming through the vents, and not just through the doors lobby. None of our windows open. I’m on the fourth floor and someone else having problems with it is on the 8th floor. We are constantly informed that the air-con system is “sealed” and does not draw in external odours. Whatever they say is clearly not true.
I’m wondering if it’s an OHS issue? I have a team member who suffers from asthma which is sometimes affected by these types of events.
Well boo-hoo.
Get back to work.
