ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after an aggravated robbery took place in Lonsdale Street, Braddon yesterday afternoon (August 21).
Around 1pm yesterday, a man armed with a large kitchen knife entered the Civic Video store, and made demands for cash. The staff member complied with the demand, and the man removed a sum of cash from the cash register before fleeing the store. The man was last seen running towards Cooyong Street.
At the time of the aggravated robbery, a customer was in the store who may have witnessed the incident. The identity of this person is not known to police.
North District Acting Superintendent Peter Davis said that this aggravated robbery was extremely brazen given the time of day and location of the store.
“An offence of this type, at 1pm in the afternoon is extremely brazen, especially with the lunch-time rush around the city area. In this case, the store employee did the right thing by complying with the demands.
“We are still seeking to locate the customer who was in the store at the time. We believe that this person may have witnessed the robbery and could provide crucial information,” Acting Superintendent Davis said.
The offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 5’5” (165cm) in height, medium build, dark coloured hair and brown eyes. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a grey ‘hoodie’ with a white motif on the front and blue jeans.
Anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the Civic Video store or around Lonsdale and Cooyong Street and witnessed the aggravated robbery, or knows someone matching the above description is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
