Quick question, just brought a macbook pro for a family member.
Who sells Mac games in Canberra?
The only place I have found is MAC1 who have games from a decade ago and only 3 or 4 when they do?

The best thing to do is install Parallels on your Mac, which enables you to boot up windows aswell as MacOS.
Then you can install PC games on it too.
…You’re kidding, right? You’re suggesting running games inside a virtualised operating system inside another operating system? Maybe on a higher-end Mac Pro, but not a Macbook Pro. Not by a long way.
Even then, VMWare is far better than Parallels – the upcoming version has DirectX 9 support for 3d, which you wont come close to getting in Parallels.
Threeze is right though. Even though most publishers are making mac games now (all future EA games will be Win/Mac compatible out of the box), Mac can’t beat Windows as a PC gaming platform. Just run Windows in BootCamp.
really.
so how come bungie was a mac os games developer?
and vmware? don’t make me laugh. can vmware run 2 os’s simultaneously at a 3rd of the core processor power?
directx 9? is that all?
parallels is by far the best mac native virtualisation platform.
I run it on my imac (SE) and it works just fine.
but then, i have suse linux and win xp running, and it all ticks along nicely.
when will MS allow you to run a cube of windows??
check out the macintosh products guide – here is the search result I got:

1643 Games. not many at all.
here is the link.
If you want to play games then boot into Windows via Bootcamp, and then you’ve got access to a whole world of Windows games.
Then when you want to get serious and do some work, boot back into MacOS 🙂
The best thing about MAC is you hardly have to by ANY software. Almost everything you nmeed is available free online as open source. Don’t know about games, but I’m sure there are some good ones available.
Other than that if you want fun innovative games then Kongregate is free and the games run on anything with flash.
Thanks everyone I will look into it, otherwise I will let them surf the internet without restriction, that should keep them busy and give them an education.
Now back to complaining about idiots in canberra that don’t understand how to use their turning lights!
We got Call of Duty 2 from Mac1, and SIMs from the Apple store at ANU.
World of Warcraft I think you can get from anyplace. I think we got my daughter’s from JB Hi Fi at Woden.
I game on Photoshop CS3 mostly. It’s great, you should get it.

Bootcamp and a copy of Windows XP. The MBP makes a pretty decent gaming rig when it runs Windows.
I usually order Mac stuff from Streetwise Software down in Melbourne.

Pretty reasonable postage, and they have a much bigger range than anyone I know of in Canberra.
