A 31-year-old Campbell man has been arrested after an aggravated robbery took place at a shopping complex in Palmerston yesterday (May 1) afternoon.
Police will allege that around 4.20pm, the man entered the store armed with a knife and threatened staff. The man fled the store with a sum of cash and was seen by a witness entering a vehicle and driving away. The witness quickly provided the details of the vehicle to police.
Around 10.30pm, police located the vehicle in Campbell and took the man into custody.
Superintendent Brett McCann from Criminal Investigations said that the apprehension of the man can be put down to the timeliness and accuracy of information provided to police shortly after the offence was committed.
“With the information provided by the witnesses, we were able to direct resources to appropriate areas within Canberra which allowed us to take the offender into custody in a timely manner.
“If you’re a victim or witness during a robbery, comply with the offenders directions and try to remember as many details as you can. There is no point in getting hurt or putting yourself in danger. Property can be replaced, your life can’t,” Superintendent McCann said.
The man has been charged with aggravated robbery and will face the ACT Magistrates Court today.
