Can we get an early entry to the criminal justice system for these oxygen thieves?

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to two Southside robberies which occurred within an hour of each other last Monday (May 14) afternoon, which police believe are linked.

About 3.40pm a 15 year-old boy was riding home from school in Isabella Plains when he was stopped by three teenagers who threatened him and took his iPod.

Around 5pm the same afternoon three friends were at the Tuggeranong skate park when they saw three teenage boys take their bags.

When one of the friends challenged them one of the offenders allegedly assaulted him and took his BMX bike.

The offenders walked away in the direction of Athllon Drive.

The stolen BMX bike is a one of a kind ‘wethepeople’ brand and is champagne and black in colour. It is worth approximately $6,000.

The offenders are described as being between 12 and 17 years-old. Two of the teenagers were wearing black bumbags over their shoulders.

The first offender was riding a black BMX bike and wearing a black T-shirt.

The second offender had short black spiky hair, acne, earrings in both ears, a pierced nose and rings on his fingers. He was wearing a blue jacket with white stripes around the middle.

The third offender was wearing plain black jeans and a brown hooded jumper with the hood pulled up over his head.

Judging by results on the internet, this particular BMX must 18 carat champagne paint. ^$6k is a ridiculous price when around $1500 is the norm for top of the line units. Sounds like an insurance scam…but if it wasn’t insured, then they had it coming anyway.

I’ve seen complete Wethepeople BMXs priced around $1,500 in retail stores. It’s conceivable that a bespoke bike or a limited edition could reach $6,000.

As for the bike lock comment… who takes a BMX to a skate park just to leave it locked up? It’s more likely the kid was knocked off his bike before it was stolen. It might have been a good idea to use a bike lock to chain the bags up to something while the kids were enjoying the park, though.

My thoughts exactly. But it doesn’t matter how much the bike cost, some arsehat stole it, and that person deserves a good flogging.

And why no $12 bike lock for a $6K bike???
