I prefer my oysters freshly shucked and unrinsed.
Have knife, can open.
Does anyone know of any suppliers around town, perhaps a van that comes up from the coast?

There’s a new fresh seafood shop in Kippax called Prestige Oysters who sells the freshest fish and oysters. They specialise in oysters. The oysters come twice a week from the south coast (merrimbulla, narooma etc) south australia, coffin bay. The oysters are freshly shucked daily, the guys there can shuck it on the spot rinsed or unrinsed for you and you can buy it unshucked. I bought all my seafood from them for christmas and easter, I garantee that it is the freshest seafood and oysters around in canberra.
How could you have bought anything from them at Christmas if they are “new”?
They opened in September 2011! That’s why i was able to buy seafood for christmas and easter!

Yes, you can buy unshucked oysters at the weekly farmers market in EPIC on Northbourne Ave. The stand is usually there every Saturday.
Not sure about the Southside Farmers market though at CIT woden on Sundays.
The Oyster Haven, 2/12 Geelong St, Fyshwick. They have different sizes and varieties of oysters that arrive 2 to 3 times freshly each week from many different locations along the south coast, South Australia – Coffin Bay and Forster/Tuncurry. You will also be able to have a taste and look at the oysters before you purchase them. Shane and the boys know exactly what you want and will look after you. Shane has been in the business for over 35 years and has a exceptional reputation in Canberra.
+1 for the Fish Shop at Erindale. Unopened $10 per bag of 25. They come up fresh from the Bay.

Not in Canberra, but there is a place down near Tuross Heads past Moruya that sells 3 dozen unopened Tuross River oyster for $20. Makes for a easy day trip down and back. Tasty oysters too.
So – 400km return trip. Let’s say running costs are a ridiculously low $0.30 per km. Works out at $140 for three dozen oysters – they’d better be pretty damn good oysters!
Meaning that if you are down that way you can pick up some oysters. Not drive all that way just for oysters. Plus some people like going on long drives, or doing day trips to the coast. It is also a popular time of year to head down the coast with many Canberrans making the trip

The Oyster Haven up the end of Geelong St, Fyshwick near where the Rebels clubhouse used to be.
+1 for Oyster haven- Shane is your man!
Thanks, hivemind. I’ll try the guy opposite Duntroon on Friday. I’m guessing this Friday would be a big day for him. Happy Festivus to all.

you can get them at the new fish shop in the Erindale Centre. They’re the same people who used to have the fish van on Sulwood Drive.

I don’t know the actual location name but most Fridays in the carpark next to the river across from ADFA, Westmans Oysters. He comes up from Batemans Bay.
He’s in the carpark on the banks of the Molonglo, kind-of opposite the minor entrance to Duntroon where the big metal machinery shed backs onto Moreshead. Has a white ute with a thing on the back with OYSTERS on it.
Seafood outlet at Belconnen Markets.
Unshucked oysters were $15 a dozen. Thought that was a bit pricey, but turned out that they were quite largish if you manage to pick the right ones.
