Canberra women young and in the majority as the Picture of Women report drops

Joy Burch has announced the release of the A Picture of Women in the ACT 2013 report:

Findings included:

— Women and girls formed a slight majority of the ACT population in 2011 at 50.5%.

— The median age of ACT women in 2011 was 35.4 years, compared to the national median age of 38.1 years.

— Completion rate of year 12 for females in the ACT in 2011 was 86%.

— In November 2012, 68.6% of ACT women were participating in the labour force, compared to the national average of 58.7%.

— In November 2012, the unemployment rate of women in the ACT was 3.7%, significantly below the national average of 5.2%.

— Representation of women on ACT Government boards and committees in 2012 was 46%.

— The current ACT Legislative Assembly comprises 41% women.

— 95.3% of ACT women felt safe or very safe in their home during the day and 86.5% at night in 2011-2012.

— ACT women have increased their participation in vocational education and training by over 6% from 2008 to 2012.
