Police received several calls overnight from residents in Canberra’s south after a number of vehicles were broken into and items stolen.
The vehicle break-ins come after a number of vehicles were broken into in the early hours of Monday morning (June 27) in Kambah and Torrens. Police pursued a red hatchback suspected of being involved in these break-ins around the Woden area but lost sight of the vehicle in Mawson.
A vehicle matching this description has since been located in Mawson.
Sergeant Steve Hogarth, Officer in Charge of the Woden Police Station said it was pleasing to see that more than half the vehicles broken into overnight had no valuable items inside.
“Out of the 14 vehicles broken into early this morning, only five had valuables left inside. It’s great to see people are starting to get the message when it comes to removing valuables from their vehicles,” he said.
Items stolen overnight included iPods, a GPS, sunglasses, tools and cash.
Police are continuing to make inquiries into the vehicle break-ins and would ask anyone with any information which could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
