ACT Policing is seeking witnesses after an aggravated robbery took place in Conder on Friday night (August 24).
Around 8.15pm, a man armed with a knife entered the Corks Local Liquor and threatened two staff members standing behind the counter. The man made demands for cash, cigarettes and alcohol.
The staff members complied with the demands before the man exited the store and left the area on foot.
Criminal Investigation’s Detective Superintendent Brett McCann said that people who visit local shopping centres should remain vigilant of people acting suspiciously.
“A common modus operandi for aggravated robberies is for the offender to first ‘case out’ the premise they are looking at robbing. They will study the business, monitor opening and closing times, and when people come and go.
“They will usually watch the premise for a period of time, choosing a quiet time to commit the offence.
“If people see someone acting suspiciously around a local shopping centre, contact the police on 131 444. This can include loitering around a particular shop, or the person just seems out-of-place for that particular time of day,” Detective Superintendent McCann said.
At the time of the robbery the man was wearing a black hooded jumper, black tracksuit pants and a face covering.
Anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or saw a man matching the above description is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
