As part of this year’s Floriade celebration, Parliament House is inviting visitors to experience the joy of spring in its sunny courtyards and enjoy seasonal high teas at the Queen’s Terrace Cafe.
For the next few weeks, visitors can enjoy a guided tour through Parliament’s courtyards, see spaces usually closed to the public, and learn fascinating insights into the landscape architecture and design of the House.
“The Landscape Services team at the Department of Parliamentary Services has worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure the internal courtyards, formal gardens and native gardens are looking their very best for the Floriade season, creating a stunning display for everyone to enjoy,” Speaker of the House of Representatives Milton Dick said.
An ideal companion to Floriade, this event offers a quieter way to experience spring away from the crowds, with just as much natural beauty in the garden’s pansies, azaleas, cherry and crab apple trees.
“The Spring Courtyards Tour is a feast for the senses, showcasing vibrant displays of colour, fragrant seasonal blooms and a wonderful opportunity to experience these remarkable spaces at their best,” President of the Senate, Senator Sue Lines said.
“The Spring High Tea, inspired by the flavours of the season, includes treats with honey harvested from the Parliament House beehives.”

Treats even include honey from Parliament’s own beehives. Photo: Australian Parliament House.
Visitors can add a refreshment package to their tickets, which includes a fresh scone from Parliament’s pastry chefs and a hot drink of choice from the cafe.
For those looking to elevate their visit, the seasonal high tea experience adds a selection of sweet and savoury treats showcasing Australian produce, inspired by the season. A kid’s high tea is also available.
Tours run from 11 September to 3 October on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with an accessible tour on 11 and 25 September.
More information on the Spring Courtyards Tour and the Spring High Tea is available on the Australian Parliament House website.
