What a beautiful thing to see on the TV, international cricket live from Manuka Oval!
Hopefully they’ve fixed the “technical issue” which scuppered the beer filling machines at all the bars for the PM’s XI.

It was a great event – but the biggest issue isn’t the beer (they were filling up with cans when I left) but the lack of real ice creams. This is an outrage of enormous proportions. Grown adults were reduced to eating soft-serve. It was a day that screamed out for a magnum or cornetto and yet there were sadly lacking. At the SCG they will do the rounds of the seats which is great.
On a lighter note it was heartening to see the proliferation of beach balls as well as Batman and the stormtrooper.
It’s a bit odd that there’s been a departure from the serving of ice-creams at both the ODI and the PM’s XI matches. I certainly remember a number of past years PM’s XI matches seeing ppl walking around with those small strap mounted coolers in front of them selling ice-creams to the crowd, but they were mysteriously absent this year.
Maybe they thought there’d be less demand during a day/night game as opposed to a full game in the heat of the day? or was it just one of many examples of poor effort by whoever got the catering contract this year. A definite drop in standards.

And it does look rather picturesque on TV doesn’t it. A great positive vision of Canberra on national TV.
My family live in Forrest, and the house cops the full brunt of the lights. Not a problem. Its nighttime and the curtains are drawn. Plus its not every night, just when there’s games. Mum and Dad are happy about it and think its a great thing for Canberra and Manuka.

You do realise that Canberra wasn’t actually ‘given’ this game, rather they paid Adelaide around $300k for the rights to their ‘allocation’.
But do agree that the games should be shared around a bit more. Maybe two games each SYD, MEL, BNE, ADL, PER with one each in Hobart and Canberra.
they are using the T20 games as carrots also, because they tend to sellout, thus Syd, Mel, Bri get T20 games. I’d expect if ODI become less popular, we might get one every now and then, especially when say Zimbabwe or Bangladesh next comes to town. Unless its winter and Cairns and Darwin get the games….
I used to play a bit of cricket and I always thought it was a great game to play but deadly dull to watch.
On the other hand, sitting around on a sunny afternoon drinking beer sounds like a very attractive proposition, and if people need cricket to justify doing that, well, good on ’em. 🙂

I think we’ll probably a game every now and then when a weaker team comes to play in Australia and there are plenty of other games for the bigger grounds. That said a few grounds have had some ordinary crowds. A game every year probably wouldn’t sell out.
Indeed a wonderful site to see . Considering the weak crowds the cricket can pull in Hobart , about time the cricket gurus look at the traditional playing down in Tassy..
