Howdy
I’m getting married in October, and my spouse-to-be and I are wearing cowboy boots. Only problem is, we don’t have any. Anyone got any advice on a good supplier of cowboy boots in the ACT?
Cheers

Sorry to OP for the hijack but greatly appreciate the info provided by everone.. now back to the cowboy boots! 😀
To Lazy I
“While on the subject of shoes (minor hijack), can anyone point me to the direction of anywhere that sells spats in Canberra? or black/white 1950’s style mobster shoes (do they have a special name?)?
Brogues are shoes with holes punched through the uppers to let the water out as you tramp across soggy Scots moors shooting grouse.
The two-colour ones you are thinking of may be brogue style, but have been called “co-respondent shoes” since legend has it they were worn by the disreputable and flashy male co-respondents in English divorce cases. From Wikipedia “Co-respondent shoes is an expression, meaning unusually patterned or coloured men’s shoes that are easily remembered, for example, when left outside the hotel room in which the adultery may be taking place.”
OH and OP no idea about cowboy boots in Canberra but I hear good things about Rocco’s shoes in Malvern in Melbourne, if you end up down that way.

no idea about spats, you could try antique shops and things like Down Memory Lane in fyshwyck, but the shoes you’re after are called brogues and have been pretty trendy recently – at least in ladies fashion.
There’s a leathergoods shop near Fernwood Gym at Westfield Woden, they look to have a lot of RM Williams and similar boots and hats and stuff.
Horseland in Fyshwick is conveniently located for picking up hen’s/bucks night supplies at the same time.
Saddleworld in Phillip might have something suitable.
Redpath have an outlet in Brand Depot that always looks overflowing with interesting stock.
And try http://www.skeanie.com.au based in Goulburn for cowboy boots in toddler size for the page boy/flower girl.
Pretty shoes are extremely meaningful to me. They symbolise prettiness and all things pretty.
However – thanks for explaining yourself. Please carry on.
Awesome, thanks for the tips! A-shopping I will go.
Re: the meaningfulness of the footwear – You are curmudgeonly! How meaningful is a pair of white high heels to anyone?
The boots I wear now were bought years ago, not in Canberra, and I want some new ones.
I reckon my wedding is a good excuse to drop a bunch of cash on a good quality pair of boots that will last me 20 years, rather than wasting money on a pair of boring overpriced footwear I’ll probably only wear once 🙂

Strange request I know.. but have no idea where to start.
A highland supply store might be the place to start.
It’s not in the ACT (technically) but Hiscock’s in Crawford St Queanbeyan has always been the epicentre of urban (and real) cowboy activity in the region. Great range of cowboy boots as well as Wrangler jeans, shirts, belts and all equestrian supplies.
Try Joes Boots in Kingston. They have a pretty good looking selection of the American style boot (fancy stitch work, alligator hide inlays, brocade etc.). from memory though you’d be look at $400 a pair and up.
I know you said in Canberra but if you go to Chapel St in Melb you would be sure to pick some up and probably still save money even including the plane ticket!
Not to be (too) curmudgeonly, but what BimboGeek said about the obvious meaningfulness of this shoe style to you.

As for Cowboy boots, I actually bought some for a friend direct from the US over eBay, and he was extremely happy with them. Only difficulty with the ordering off the Internet is getting the sizing right (something that is especially critical with boots!).
I don’t understand why you’re celebrating your future together by wearing the kind of shoes you don’t know where to find but I suppose it’s kind of appropriate that you’re stepping into your new exciting future in new exciting shoes. So congratulations and I have absolutely no idea where to find cowboy boots either, I’d probably order them online from Vegan Wares by sending in a picture of what I want and having it made to order.
RM Williams migrated to the Canberra Centre a while ago.
If you can’t find good value there duck off to Horseland or one of the other equine suppliers who should have a good range.
Depends on what you are thinking of… if you want fully sick texas style boots the internet might be your friend.
I misread your post at first Boo – I thought you said you were ‘only’ wearing cowboy boots on your wedding day.
Is the RM Williams store still in Garema Place? Next to the Sushi Train, under the huge clock?
