Unique enough to have a nickname, the Curtin tree house at 26 Nelson Place in a suitably leafy cul-de-sac is perfect for a family that wants the convenience of the city and the openness of the suburbs.

This four-bedroom, two-bathroom property, featuring a study and a rumpus room, is nestled on a garden block in the much-coveted Radburn Precinct, an area designed for families and children to thrive.

“The orientation of the home is very special in that the back of it opens up into parkland green spaces, and from there you can walk practically anywhere,” LJ Hooker Weston/Woden agent Jane Macken says.

“This area is very desirable because you can walk or cycle wherever you need to go, and it’s all through green spaces.”

Greenery is the theme here, with the home surrounded by trees, and it has its own private garden sanctuary, with a footpath, lush grass, bushes, trees and even a little waterfall.

“We call it the fairy garden for good reason. It features a small babbling brook and regularly attracts visiting birds – cockatoos, rosellas and even an owl from time to time. Yet for all that garden, it’s actually been designed to be a low-maintenance space,” Jane says.

The property’s ground floor is dominated by a large dining area, which leads to a sunken lounge room with a fireplace, perfect for entertaining or spending time with the family. The lounge room has a northerly aspect and brings in light through large sliding doors.

The oversized dining room is great for an extended family or dinner parties, coming in at a roomy 4.8 x 5.4 metres.

“A 12 to 16-person dining table could easily be accommodated here. It’s a very large space,” Jane says.

In addition, the ground floor boasts a large study with cupboard space, connecting to the second bedroom.

“Versatility is important in a home, and the study opens up a lot of possibilities. It has been a work-from-home office, but the sliding doors mean it can open up or be private as needed. It could also be a baby room or a dressing room,” Jane says.

While upstairs, the home has a large rumpus room, ripe for conversion into a home library or hobby room. The rumpus room also accesses a storeroom which spans the length of the space, and the property has attic storage, reducing the clutter that comes with family life.

Curtin is an ideal place to raise a family. Parents coming to the suburb are spoiled for choice when it comes to local schools, and most of them are within walking or cycling distance.

“The area is perfect for parents who want a particular lifestyle for their kids. There are schools, daycares and pre-schools, with both public and private options,” Jane says.

“But there’s a lot here for parents, too. There are pubs, restaurants, a gym and cafes, as well as supermarkets nearby.”

The home has plenty of ease-of-life features that make home management easier, such as a workshop in the garage, a separate laundry with outdoor access, under-stair storage and ducted gas heating.

A private sanctuary that seamlessly connects to community green spaces while giving families access to an ideal lifestyle, this property is a standout in a suburb already known for its quality.
