A Gordon family is warning the community about a dangerous dog still on the loose after it viciously attacked their teenage son in a suburban park on Sunday.

The 15-year-old boy’s mother said her son was walking with a friend through the small park off Woodcock Avenue in Gordon about 5.30pm when a big-headed, large brown dog without a collar or tag suddenly appeared and took hold of his upper right arm.

“He did not approach the dog, the dog just ran up out of nowhere and latched on,” she said.

She praised the bravery of her son’s friend, who kicked the dog so it would release its grip on her son’s arm.

The boy was taken to hospital with a gaping wound that required plastic surgery.

The mother said that rangers had responded but had not been able to find the dog. “I’m terrified of this dog hurting a child again. Please if you know this dog or see it around please contact the ranger,” she said.

She said Domestic Animal Services had advised it would send out extra patrols in a bid to catch the animal.
