Something I know all RiotACTors will flock to:
A Chorus of Women
Sharing grief — Breaking bread
Saturday 19 August 2006, 11.00–12.00 am
Help create a symbolic act of sharing and reconciliation among all peoples.
Join A Chorus of Women, Women in Black, together with musician friends
(Brian Hungerford, Ian Blake, Nitya Parker and others), to express grief with
all the people of the Middle East whose lives are caught up in the current
violence and fear.
We will meet in Garema Place at 11.00 to express our grief through silent vigil
and songs of lament.
We will then walk to the statue of Ethos in Civic Square, calling for peace and
carrying flowers. At Civic Square (about 11.45 am), we will break bread
together in a simple ceremony to acknowledge our common humanity.
Please bring flowers and bread to share if you wish.
All are welcome
A Chorus of Women began when 150 women filled the Australian Parliament with
the song ‘Lament’ on 18 th March 2003. Like the ancient Greek Chorus, we try to
listen for the wise course and weave the threads of humanity and equity more
consciously into the fabric of Australian society. (see http://www.chorusofwomen.org)
Women in Black is a world-wide network of women committed to peace and
non-violence. Standing silently together in a public place, the Women in Black Vigils
express solidarity, support and strength towards all people everywhere who are
suffering violence of any kind.
